Fibromyalgia and AI

Published on January 14, 2026 at 4:49 PM

I promised to share tools I've used to manage my fibromyalgia. One key tool is the AI platform Perplexity, which I got free for a year through PayPal.  Perplexity has helped me understand my symptoms and helped me with questions for my doctors and to understand how complex fibromyalgia can be.  Perplexity has helped me in so many ways.

I started using Perplexity.ai because I wanted to see what all it can do.  So far it has helped me navigate through some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto's and Diabetes type II.  I use it to explain to me what I seem to keep missing from the Doctors.  Perplexity remembers what I have searched for before, so I don't have to keep explaining everything like you do with a search engine.  When I need help understanding how steroids could be affecting how I was feeling, or how to get an at home job with certain qualifications I turned to Perplexity.  I did not foresee how much I was going to like Perplexity and how much it truly has been helping me.

Linking Symptoms to Diabetes

Perplexity spotted correlations between my fibromyalgia and type 2 diabetes. When I first was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes I wanted to know why my fasting blood glucose test was not under 120 after taken medicine, and watching my diet with exercise.  I was told glucose levels fluctuate but my A1C was where we wanted it to be.  I trusted the information.  I wasn't having any issues until I started taking steroids for another issue I have, Erythema Nodosum (EN).  I started taking Prednisone to help get rid of these very painful nodules on my ankles.  Despite a low A1C suggesting control, it analyzed my symptoms and suggested daily blood sugar spikes might be adding to the symptoms and my general miserable feeling.  This in turn has me considering purchasing at least for a little bit a continuous glucose monitoring system.  This way I can tell if it is spikes in my blood sugar causing more issues and maybe help me focus my diet more.

Daily Support

Perplexity also guided me to keep a digital diary of my symptom sleep patterns and other measurables.  It gave me recommendations on apps I could use to track information such as energy.  It also told me to make a list of things I could do if I was having a bad day.  And when I tell it I am having a bad day, it reminds me to breath.

I chat with it about my feelings too. Yesterday, upset and crying over my endocrinologist denying meds (despite research saying I might need them), Perplexity reminded me to breathe, normalized my frustration, and urged one step at a time.

Perplexity.ai has helped me feel less alone and helped me find answers to the questions I have.  Don't be afraid to use a different tool than you are used to.

Thanks for reading,

Kerry C.
